After the Austrian Federal Railways ÃÂBB were able to operate their main long-distance routes with 120 km / h top speed and electrified in the 1950s, the need arose for a modern electric locomotive, which should reach a top speed of 130 km / h with a power of 3000 kW. Delivered for the first time in 1955, the machines were immediately put into express train service, where they proved their worth on the west and south trams as well as on the Semmering. At first, by far the fastest electric locomotives in Austria, they soon became one of the most important pillars of high-quality passenger train service because of their proverbial reliability. By 2000, the ÃÂBB still had 18 copies, and only in 2003, the last machines were retired. Nine locomotives have been preserved until today.
